 2023/2024: 2 NEW CLASS OFFERED/FRENCH POT POURRI

A CULTURAL APPROACH  FOCUSING ON THE DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF FRENCH REGIONS AND CULTURE.

This class is for people who have completed 8 quarters of the Texbook “ Deux Mondes”. THE LEVEL IS BETWEEN INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED.

In this class we will learn in depth about a particular region of France. Each quarter a different one . With 8 separate classes of 2 and a half hours each time , we will be focusing on an aspect of that region. Each time a student will present for 15 to 20 minutes then the class will ask that student questions and a conversation will follow with class exploring the theme further with practice of grammar and of the new vocabulary learned.

Within the next three months depending on  students interest , we will follow with an  handson  experience in that region with me as their tour guide through my new Business DOUCE FRANCE.

Minimum required for the trip 7/ maximum 10

The fee will have to be paid for 2 months prior to departure in order for me to make the proper arrangements./ NO LATE FEE WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Maeva manava (welcome to)to French Polynesia /Spring quarter

This class will be similar to Pot Pourri in its format . It will be taught completely in French . We will evoke 2 books written about French Polynesia to provide a historical perspective. The students are BY NO MEANS required to read those 2 accounts .Tthey will simply  be mentioned.The sessions will each present a different aspect of the Society Islands that will be our main focus, namely Tahiti, Moorea , Maupiti, Bora Bora , Raiatea and Huaine, which are the main ones. We will talk about the geography and origin of those islands, the migration to this archipelago, the history, the specific culture and traditions, the many crafts , navigation and fishing techniques , religions and beliefs, the flora and the preservation of this incredible biotope. This class will start in the Spring quarter at the beginning of April. Specific dates to be determined at a later date.

COURSE NUMBER 9599

Minimum number of students required 6, maximum 12

During the class, we will engage in role play and situations  targeted to travelers and people who wish to live in France. The students will be asked to come up with dialogues  pertaining to the following subjects: reserving a table at a restaurant  or a room at a hotel or going to banks and dealing with administration, health issues, shopping, etc. Students will be given many opportunities to  use their language skills.The class will be conducted mostly in French. At least 3 quarters of French are required.

During the quarter we will engage in discussions on current events based on  topics or publications regarding politics, economy, sociology and various aspects of French culture. Students will be given a great many opportunities to debate and extensively use their language skills.The class will be conducted solely in French. FLUENCY OR NEAR FLUENCY REQUIRED

Class Schedule:

Tuesdays : 09:30 AM to 11:30 PM from 0I/16/24 to O2/27/24  

FEES: $ 220 for 7 sessions of 2 hours/14H

FRENCH GRAMMAR TUNE UP TROUGH ZOOM

COURSE NUMBER: 9601

minimum number of students required 6, maximum 14

This course will focus on PREPOSITIONAL VERBS ONLY and their different applications and aspects in context . Before each class the students  will be asked  to review a list of verbs and will be given exercises .. In class we will correct the exercises and come up with additional examples  . This class is suitable for Intermediate students .

FRENCH 6/

COURSE NUMBER : 9605

This course is for students who have completed French 1 2 and 3 , 4 and 5 in the Deux Mondes textbook or who are at a basic/intermediate conversational level. In this class we will study chapters 9 and 10  of the Deux Mondes 7th edition textbook.We will be using either the paper copy or the Ebook one.

Class schedule:

Fridays: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM from 01/12/24 to 03/01/24

Fees: $320 for 20h of instruction /10 sessions of 2 hours each. REGISTRATION REQUIRED . Payment is your registration. There is NO pre-registration to the class. Payment is done through Zelle or by check. Once registered, the students will receive a zoom invite to the class. Fees must be paid in full upon registration. ( prorating is not available)

POT POURRI

COURSE NUMBER 9607

This class is designed for students who have taken 8 quarters of French. This quarter we will explore Corsica in its different aspects; ( Its geography, culture, traditions , food, history, language, etc) during 8 sessions of 2h30m each.

Class schedule:

Thursdays: 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM from 01/11//24 to 02/29/24

Fees: $320 for 8 sessions of 2:30 hours . 20 hours of instruction instead of the usual 16 . REGISTRATION REQUIRED  Once registered the students will receive a zoom invite for the class . Fees must be paid in full upon registration ( prorating is not available)

At the end of this session, the students will be able to move to a conversation class.

INTERMEDIATE FRENCH

COURSE NUMBER: 9602

minimum number of students required 6, maximum 12

This class is suitable for students of intermediate level who would like to practice their conversational skills. During the course of this class, we will talk about topics pertaining to French culture, the arts, the food, the mentalities, the traditions and specialties in the various regions, cinema and songs.

Class Schedule:

Mondays: from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM from 01/15/24 to 02/19/24 

FEES: $210 for 6 sessions of 2 hours

FRENCH LITERATURE/ BOOK CLUB

COURSE NUMBER: 9603

minimum number of students 5, maximum 10

Each course, a book or book excerpts will be chosen among classical literature or the most recent literary publications of French. During the course of 6 sessions, we will analyze this work, its style , talk about its various themes and aspects, symbols and meaning. We will explore the lives of the characters. ADVANCED LEVEL REQUIRED. Native speakers welcome

WINTER  quarter: A study of L’AFRICAIN  FROM LE CLEZIO

Wednesdays: 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM from 01/17/24 / to 03/06/24

Fees: $ 320 for 8 sessions of 2:30 hours/20 hours instead of the usual 12 hours in order to explore the 2 books more efficiently.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED: once registered, the students will receive a Zoom invite for the class.  Fees must be paid in full for the class upon registration.  Prorating will not be available.

Refund will ONLY be available for emergency reasons.

FRENCH TUTORING CLASSES AVAILABLE - ALL LEVELS

FREQUENCY: UPON REQUEST: daily, weekly, bi weekly, monthly

Length of sessions: from 1 hour to 2 hours 30 minutes depending on age of students and goal.

Fees per hour: $50

SEMI PRIVATE CLASSES AVAILABLE- ALL LEVELS

2 people : 74$  per hour / 37$ per person

3 people: 90$ per hour / 30$ per person

REGISTRATION REQUIRED: Students will register for 4 classes at a time. Tuition due at registration.  Once registered, students will be sent an invite for 4 sessions at a time through a Zoom invite.
